The long-term and in-depth nature of upgrades happening at the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora has been widely discussed in Colorado as development unfolds. Anschutz is located on a portion of the former Fitzsimons Army Medical Center, and hazardous materials have slowly been discovered in different building materials and sections of soil as preparations for renovations, demolition, and construction take place. Construction and renovations are ongoing to increase space for students, improve the learning environment, and to provide a wider range of enhanced medical support for patients. DS Environmental has been working with construction teams at Anschutz for almost 10 years to test for regulated hazardous materials, test for soil contamination, monitor air quality, and provide final clearance checks. Development of the medical campus has been spread out over many years, with total project costs coming close to $500 million just since 2005.
